Edwin Lopez is the Founder and Director of Diverse Angels, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization providing assistance to the homeless, as well as underprivileged children both locally and internationally. The organization provides assistance such as mentoring, after school initiatives, and tutoring as well as sponsorship for sporting events allowing children to compete without the restrictions of travel and administrative costs. We also assist other charities and international NGOs with fundraising and volunteer efforts especially in cases of natural disasters.

Edwin is a highly visible leader, directing all aspects of day-to-day operations including strategic planning, development activities, resource development, marketing/communications, finance/budgets and operation of programs in support of organizational goals. He fully embraces Diverse Angels’ vision by building strength, stability and self-reliance in partnership with communities and community leaders.

Key projects include partnering with local Non-Government Organizations in Trinidad & Tobago. Diverse Angels will assist in the revitalization of specific local community centers that were either damaged during the heavy flooding or have been shut down due to the lack of resources and necessary funding to keep them running efficiently.

Additionally, we have to Feed the Homeless and Less Fortunate of Trinidad & Tobago. The mission and goal for Diverse Angels are to feed the people of both sister islands. Long-term goals include opening a major food bank in each city to provide nourishment and basic human necessities. Annually we also put on a Youth-A-Poolozza event where we bring in guest speakers to talk about goals and leadership and provide food, fun, and games for participants.

Mr. Lopez is also the Co-founder of Five Star General Athletics, another 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization and youth track club that travels the US and competes. In this role, Edwin also oversees all aspects of operations and serves as a coach for kids ages 5-18 in practices and competitions. Edwin continually advances the organization’s mission in developing elite character in youth athletes by keeping kids off the streets and away from the television, while enhancing the values of teamwork, citizenship, and self-esteem.

The program also provides youth with unique cultural and educational experiences as some are experiencing their first competition or their first airline flight, their first time visiting a city out of the state, and other new and interesting things they are introduced to. There is an emphasis on meeting new friends from various cultures and backgrounds, and the ability to work as a team. The organization has traveled to compete in the AAU Junior Olympics in Virginia, Texas, North Carolina, and Iowa.

Prior to his not-for-profit work, Edwin worked in both the private sector and public sector in leadership roles giving him a unique and well-rounded business perspective. He got his start with UPS and currently works with the Department of Homeland Security for the past 18 years where he is a key member of the management team accountable for securing our nation from the many threats we face. In this role, he is well-respected and highly regarded by management, his peers and subordinates for his dedication, leadership skills and contributions to improvements to the security systems that protect the citizens of our country.

Born in Manhattan, NY Edwin’s family moved to Miami when he was only 6 months old and raised him in North Miami Beach. Edwin acquired his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Keiser University with a Concentration in Management and Minor in Accounting. He currently resides in Pembroke Pines and is a single father to two daughters who are a daily inspiration for his non-profit work. He enjoys coaching kids in track and field and building their self-esteem to allow them to know that anything is achievable through hard work and dedication.
